Karen’s Artwork
Framin' Place's Artist-in-Residence

Karen is Artist-In-Residence at Framin’ Place, as well as being a Certified Professional Framer, and it’s not uncommon to see some of Karen’s works displayed in our Gallery from time to time.   She recently returned from a plein air painting trip to Door County, Wisconsin.

In the previous years, Karen has chosen pastels as her primary art medium.  Recently, she has rediscovered oils as well. With the help of several artists clubs, monthly demonstrations and workshops, Karen has grown in her skills as an artist and has shown in a number of galleries in the St. Louis area.  To date, her pastels have won several top prizes.

“Pedal Car Jimmy” was selected for display at the Foundry Art Center exhibit “Transportation.”

“Near Cambelton” won a top honor at the drawing exhibition at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild.

In June 2006 she won first place and honorable mention for her pastels at the Lafayette Square Plein Air competition.  You can see her painting “Sleeping Chief Mountain” online at  www.pastelinternational.com, a juried internet show.

Currently “Night Train Station” is on exhibit at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum in St. Joseph, Mo.  “Night Train Station” was also accepted into the Chicago Pastel Exhibit.

Recently, Karen’s piece “Between Heaven and Earth” won Second Place in the Plein Air competition in Victor, Colorado.

Karen explains “My main objective in creating art is to capture the fleeting beauty of nature, objects and life as we view it at the moment.”
